All you need is a normal black marker, a dried-out matching marker, and a paperback book. Now, you’re ready to get started.

Setup: Circle a few words on a page in the middle of a paperback book with a black marker. There should be a bigger word that stands out among the others. Slightly bend the corners of the pages for the center page you want to use. This makes finding that page much easier for the next steps.

Pro Tip: Before the trick, make a small circle on the back of the book. Then retrace it with the dried-out marker with the book turned away to convince them it’s a normal working marker with ink inside. Place your index finger inside the page you want them to stop at; so whenever your spectator says, “stop,” you can drop the remaining pages as you rotate the book upside-down.
