Setup: All you need is a regular deck of cards and a cell phone. An easier version of this trick is to spread the deck face-up and let the spectator pull out a card so you can both see it. To add another layer of deception, follow along and stack your deck as Reza shows. This will allow you to perform the entire trick with the cards face-down.
The Wizard Preparation: You need to coach a friend ahead of time and let them know to be available with their ringer on so they are ready when you call them. The second they pickup, your friend will start saying, “Ace, two, three, four…” You will stop them at the correct number by asking, “Is this the Wizard?” Next, your friend lists off the suits, “Clubs, Hearts, Spades, Diamonds.” Then you will interrupt them on the correct suit by saying, “I have someone I want to introduce you to.” Finally, “The Wizard” will reveal the chosen card on the phone, leaving your audience speechless.
It can make the trick happen faster if you place lower value cards all together in the center of the deck. Example: Separate the Aces, 2’s, 3’s, and 4’s from the deck and stack them all in the center. This way, when you spread out all the cards, it’s more likely the spectator will choose a lower value card from the middle.
Pro Tips: Label the friend you will be calling in your cell phone as “The Wizard” for their contact name. This can add another layer of fun. Also make sure your audience doesn’t know the person who is calling. It could feel like more of a setup if “The Wizard’s” voice is familiar to them.
