Setup: All you need is a regular deck of cards, a small envelope, and a duplicate card (of the force card) that you will hide inside the envelope before the trick begins. Place your force card on top of the deck. Of course, you can choose any card you want for this purpose. You can seal the envelope with tape or string, and hand it to your spectator as you start interacting with them.
One way to force the cards is to use a cloth napkin as a cover. While under the napkin, rotate the entire deck to be face-up. Wherever the spectator cuts to, simply rotate the bottom pile to be face-down and give them the top force card as their “freely selected card.”
Pro Tip: This moment is the key to your success with this trick. After they return their memorized force card back inside the deck, it’s important to really act like you cannot find their card anywhere. Now is the time to transfer all the attention to the small envelope you gave them earlier.
